Loan Stories
During the year we aim to bring you stories about one of our loan horses, ponies or donkeys and the people involved. We hope you enjoy seeing not only how happy our equines are once they loaned out but also how happy the new "carers" are!
GEORGE
George was rescued by Shirley Walbanke at nine months of age, he was put out on loan to allow him to mature and grow. He has grown into a lovely cob of about 15 hands high and is a really handsome horse.
George now lives happily with Crown Prince, (another one of our ponies), in a lovely home and is loaned by Elsa and Malcolm. Elsa had broken him in for riding. When Elsa met Maureen, our Yard Manager, she mentioned that she had nowhere to school George and that he was still quite green. Maureen offered to take George back to Woodstock Farm for the summer for schooling and to bring him on.
The HRF staff started by taking George back to basics. He was long reined, lunged and finally ridden in the school, he proved to be a quick learner and although sometimes unsure of himself took confidence from his rider. It was not long before George was hacking out with some of our other horses and ponies. Finally the day came when he went out on his own, he was a real star and coped with all the traffic he met on our lanes. Elsa then came to Woodstock Farm and hacked George with the staff and also on his own for several weeks.
George went back home at the end of the summer and has blossomed into a lovely hack. Elsa now enjoys some lovely rides with him and George totally trusts her. He really is a big softie and loves nothing better than having his bottom scratched.
Elsa and Malcolm gathered a big crowd of family and friends together to take part in the Rotary Club charity walk that was held in May around Somerleyton. Without people like them and their support we would not be able to help all the equines that we do. They also help out on our Tradestand at shows, so come on other members we really appreciate any help you can give to the Fund.
Next month we will tell you about Crown Prince and how he came to Elsa and Malcolm and all the children he has helped over the years.
